All candidates for our training program go through an extensive screening process before being selected.  Requirements for the class include a data entry test score of at least 6,500 keystrokes per hour, passing a basic math and English test, and going through an intense behavioral based interview.  Before being placed into a position, the candidate must also pass three tests on the material covered in class.   The training class is a five day / forty hour program designed to introduce the concepts of medical billing.  Topics covered include:

1.  The flow of a patient and documents from the initial appointment call to the resolution  of his or her account.

2. The importance of customer service in the healthcare environment.

3. An introduction to basic forms used in the billing environment.

4. The major payer categories and specific details regarding eligibility and coordination of benefits’ rules and regulations.

5. Analyzing and interpreting an insurance card.

6. Registration, charge entry, and payment posting on a medical billing system with practical exercises on actual registration forms, encounter forms, and EOB’s.

7. Extensive coverage of the HCFA 1500 claim form, including requirements by payer.

8. A/R functions such as posting rejections and checking the status of a claim.

9. An introduction to medical terminology and ICD9 and CPT coding.
